I've spent more than 20 years as a leader at publicly traded healthcare companies. That kind of work teaches you a lot about how big organizations get noticed. They have teams for marketing, teams for technology, teams for data, and budgets to match.

Over those years I kept noticing something that bothered me: small business owners were being left behind.

I don't mean they were bad at what they do. Most small business owners I know are excellent at their craft. The plumber knows plumbing. The groomer knows dogs. The mechanic can hear what's wrong with your car before you finish describing it. The problem was never the work. The problem was getting found. In a crowded market, the best shop in town can be close to invisible if its signal isn't coming through.

It started at home

My wife runs a small business. So I didn't learn about this from a distance. I saw what it takes to stand out in a crowded market up close, at our own kitchen table.

Helping her business get noticed started as a passion project. I wanted to take what I knew about how bigger organizations show up, communicate, and use technology, and figure out how a small business could do the same things without the giant budget or a full marketing department.

We started with the basics: a Google Business Profile set up the right way, a website with a blog that answered the questions her future clients were already asking, and simple online forms so people could reach out and schedule without playing phone tag.

The results surprised even me. Her counseling practice went from zero clients to her first two within 30 days. By month two she had nine. Within six months she had a waiting list, and her phone is still ringing.

None of that was magic. It was a clear signal: when people went looking for help, they found her, they trusted what they saw, and it was easy to take the next step.

Then other owners started asking

A passion project has a way of growing. Since then I've helped dozens of other clients with their marketing:

  • Websites that look professional and tell customers what they need to know
  • Blogs and content that answer real customer questions
  • SEO and AEO, so businesses show up on Google and in the answers AI tools give people
  • AI tools that help a small business compete, like following up with customers automatically so leads don't slip through the cracks

Every one of those projects came back to the same idea: small businesses deserve the same chance to be seen and heard that big companies take for granted.

What "signal" means to me

I named this business Signal & Site because that's the job: helping your business come in loud & clear.

Think about trying to tune in a radio station on a drive through the mountains. The station is out there broadcasting the whole time, but if the signal's weak, all you get is static. A lot of good local businesses are like that. They're broadcasting, but customers searching on their phones get static: an outdated website, a Google listing that's half filled out, calls that go to voicemail and never get returned.

My work is to clear up that static. Sometimes that means a clean, simple website. Sometimes it means setting up your Google Business Profile properly. Sometimes it means a few practical AI tools that text back a missed call or ask a happy customer for a review. And sometimes it means coaching on sales and follow-up so the leads you do get turn into customers.

Who I built this for

Signal & Site is for the mom-and-pop shops around North Georgia: trades, auto shops, salons, groomers, landscapers, cleaning companies, and every other owner who's too busy doing the work to also be a marketing department.

You don't need to learn jargon. You don't need a huge budget. You need someone who'll explain things plainly, do the work right, and help you get found by the people already looking for what you do.

That's why I started Signal & Site.
